The
HeartRoot Farm Community
Heartroot Farm is 240 acres of protected land near Lac-Mégantic, Qc. on the border of Maine at the northernmost tip of the Appalachians and the White Mountains - a place of solace and communion with Nature where we continue to teach, to harvest and transform wild herbs, and to mark the solstices and equinoxes with retreats and sweat-lodges.
Facilities available: Use of the kitchen
(including spices and staples); sheets, blankets,
towels, biodegradable and organic toiletries and
paper goods, and laundry facilities; art supplies;
the meditation room (includes candles and incense);
the trampoline; snowshoes; the library; access
to the fields and forests on the Farm; access
to the gardens and harvesting of herbs and other
plants (under supervision); group meditations,
teaching and treatments (fees for treatments);chanting workshops (fees apply);
proximity to the many lakes, mountains,
hiking trails, and cultural events in the region
of Lac Megantic.
Work Trade Possibilities
Heartroot Farm offers work trade possibilities for those who would like to exchange labour for courses or room and board. Below you will find a list of some basic tasks that need to be done before, during and after retreats. In addition to these, we are often in need of childcare, and there are numerous seasonal tasks and ongoing projects that could use your help. Please contact us if you would like to know more or if you would like to set up a work trade exchange with us.
Before Retreat:
Clean bathrooms:
empty trash (paper in recycling or fire) sweep beat rugs
refill toilet paper/ soap etc.
brush toilets
take dirty towels/facecloths to laundry
pour Vita Biosa down toilets (once a month)
Sweep/beat rugs all over barn
Empty recycling, garbage and compost
Dusting (remove spiderwebs, dust surfaces)
Bread and yogurt making (people with experience only)
Wash windows
Dishes (regularly)
Hot tub maintenance (cleaning, filling, draining)
Gardening (tasks differ with seasons)
Brush animals
General tidying in common areas
Check bedrooms (sheets, pillowcases, wood, swept, heating)
Organizing foodstuff
During Retreat:
Clean bathrooms:

take dirty towels/facecloths to laundry

Sweep/beat rugs all over barn

Wash and dry laundry : hang on line in summer, dryer in winter
( bedsheets, towels, facecloths, handkerchiefs, dishcloths, rags)
Dusting (remove spiderwebs, dust surfaces)
Wash windows
Hot tub maintenance (keep fire going, stir water, cleaning)
Gardening (tasks differ with seasons)
Brush animals
Clean stable (shoveling, putting down sawdust)
Bread and yogurt making (people with experience only)
Prep + cleanup for meals
Dishes (regularly)
Tea cup gathering & washing
General tidying in common areas
Winter:
- Restock wood (dormitory, extension, upstairs & downstairs in barn)
- Snow shoveling (doorways, pathways)
- Spread ashes
- Tend fires
Sweat Lodge:
Gather and hang up blankets after lodge
